Following this, a brief introduction to AI in education will provide an overview of its role in lesson planning, particularly in social studies. Educators will explore key ways AI can assist in adjusting content for different reading levels, generating diverse question types, and developing adaptive instructional strategies.In the next segment, participants will engage in live demonstrations of AI tools such as ChatGPT, MagicSchool AI, and Gammas AI. They will see firsthand how AI can modify historical texts for varying Lexile levels, scaffold discussion prompts, and create differentiated assessments. Teachers will then have an opportunity for hands-on practice, where they will explore an AI tool of their choice to modify an existing lesson or generate new instructional materials.
Struggling readers and overwhelmed students are common in any classroom—but especially in Social Studies, where academic language and complex tasks are everywhere. This session highlights Goblin AI, a free and simple tool with a “spice meter” that helps students break down confusing questions and prompts into smaller steps. Learn how to use it for differentiation, writing support, and accommodations. Attendees will leave with ready-to-use examples and activities—plus a quick look at an upcoming tool, Tchr.tools, designed to further support student engagement and access.

We will have the students create picket signs or recruitment posters for strikes and labor as well as discuss ideas on having students become part of the lessons without the traditional simulations. We are still working out all the details.

Looking for a way to make economic concepts more interactive without sacrificing valuable instructional time? This session will explore the use of Micro-Simulations, or short role-playing activities (15-20 minutes) designed to immerse students in economic content. These simulations provide a dynamic, hands-on learning experience that enhances understanding of key economic concepts while maintaining the quick pace of the curriculum. Participants will actively engage in two Micro-Simulations that they can take back to their own classrooms, ready to implement. In addition, they will discover myriad other examples for maximizing student engagement, aligned to the curricula of both AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics.
